60 min
Thursday, September 17, 2026
9:00 AM - 10:00 AM
Autistic individuals frequently experience co-occurring psychiatric and medical conditions that can be difficult to recognize because symptoms may present differently or be mistakenly attributed to autism. This session will examine common conditions, such as anxiety, ADHD, depression, suicidality, irritability, and catatonia. While emphasizing behavior as a potential expression of distress, unmet needs, sensory overload, or communication barriers. Through lifespan-based guidance and clinical cases, faculty will discuss practical assessment strategies and individualized treatment plans incorporating behavioral interventions, accommodations, psychotherapy, medication when appropriate, shared decision-making, and multidisciplinary care.
