Shilpa Srinivasan, MD is Professor of Clinical Psychiatry and Vice Chair for Medical Staff Affairs- Behavioral Health Midlands in Neuropsychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Prisma Health-University of South Carolina School of Medicine in Columbia, SC. She directs the Geriatric Psychiatry Fellowship Program and Psychiatry Medical Student (M4) clerkship. She received her medical education at the Albert Szent Gyorgyi School of Medicine in Szeged, Hungary. She completed general psychiatry residency at Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans, where she served as chief resident, and geriatric psychiatry fellowship at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center. Dr. Srinivasan’s clinical expertise is in neurocognitive disorders, mood and anxiety disorders in older adults, geriatric telepsychiatry and curriculum development.
Dr. Srinivasan holds several regional and national leadership roles. She is President of the American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry (AAGP). She is a board member of the SC Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association. Dr. Srinivasan received the 2025 AAGP Clinician of the Year and 2021 AAGP Educator of the Year Awards, and the 2023 Jack Weinberg Memorial Award for Geriatric Psychiatry from the American Psychiatric Association (APA). She chairs the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) Geriatric Psychiatry Article Based Continuing Certification (ABCC) Exam Committee, and is a past recipient of the ABPN Faculty Innovation in Education Award. She is board-certified in General Psychiatry and Geriatric Psychiatry. She is a past president of the South Carolina Psychiatric Association, distinguished fellow of the APA, and AAGP, and an inductee of the American College of Psychiatrists.
