The Official Meeting of Vascular Disease Management
Richard Genova, BA, RVT, RPhS, NVS, is Technical Director of the Neurovascular Ultrasound Laboratory at Weill Cornell Medicine/NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. A credentialed vascular sonographer with nearly twenty years of experience, he specializes in cerebrovascular and neurovascular imaging, particularly carotid plaque characterization and classification with duplex ultrasound, and transcranial Doppler (TCD).
He is a site sonographer for the CREST-2 trial and was the lead sonographer for MOST-CA (Mechanisms of Ischemic Stroke in Patients with Cancer; PI Babak Navi, MD, RPNI), co-authoring reports in Annals of Neurology and the Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis. He is clinical advisor and site sonographer for development of a wearable TCD patch for emboli monitoring, led by Jeffrey Ketterling, PhD, through the NIH/NIBIB-funded project "Transcranial Doppler Array for Automated Ultrasound Emboli Detection with Deep Learning" (R01EB037051). He serves on the Board of Directors of the American Society of Neuroimaging (ASN), where he helped implement the Neurovascular Sonography (NVS) credential, and from 2020 to 2026 served on the IAC Vascular Testing Board of Directors representing the American Academy of Neurology and ASN.
He authored the chapter "Use of Transcranial Doppler in the Outpatient Ultrasound Lab" in Neurovascular Sonography (Springer, 2022). A longtime member of the Society for Vascular Ultrasound, the Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography, and ASN, Mr. Genova advocates for appropriately certified technologists and for collaboration among sonographers, neurologists, cardiologists, vascular and endovascular interventionalists. His current interests include advanced carotid plaque imaging, microvascular imaging, elastography, ultrafast vector flow imaging, ultrasound localization microscopy and validation of point-of-care ultrasound.
