Nicolas Mouawad
MD, MPH, MBA, FSVS, FRCS, FACS, RPVI

Nicolas J. Mouawad, MD MPH MBA FACS FRCS FSVS RPVI is the Chief of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery, Vice-Chair of the Department of Surgery, and Medical Director of the Non-invasive Vascular Laboratories at McLaren Health System - Bay Region. He is board certified in general and vascular surgery and holds clinical academic titles at Michigan State University and Central Michigan University. He specializes in advanced surgical vascular care, including aortic pathologies, expanded endovascular therapies, and venous disorders.

Dr. Mouawad earned his medical degree at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and completed a general surgery residency and chief residency at Saint Joseph Mercy Health System, Ann Arbor, MI. He also completed a vascular surgery fellowship at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, Columbus, Ohio.

He completed an MBA with a concentration in health care administration and an MPH with a dual focus on health policy & management and health education & promotion. He also completed the Leadership Program for Health Policy and Management at The Heller School for Social Policy and Management at Brandeis University, Waltham, MA, and was selected at the American College of Surgeons and Society for Vascular Surgery Health Policy Scholar in 2018.

An active researcher, Dr. Mouawad is Chair of the Cardiovascular Research Council for the McLaren Health System. He is principal investigator of multiple health system related trials and continues to participate in new technology innovations.
He serves on the Editorial Board of Annals of Vascular Surgery and Frontiers in Vascular Surgery, and serves as Associate Editor for Annals in Vascular Surgery - Reports and Techniques. He has serves as a reviewer in multiple journals including the Journal of Vascular Surgery, Vascular, Journal of Endovascular Therapy, European Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing, among others. He has authored or coauthored a multitude of peer-reviewed articles and editorials, as well as several book chapters. He has presented his work widely in the international, national, regional, and local arena.

Dr. Mouawad has received many honors and awards for teaching, research, quality, clinical excellence and scholarship. He has previously served as Chair of the Resident and Associate Society of the American College of Surgeons and currently is Education Chair and a member of the Governing Council of the Young Fellows Association as well as a member of the Young Surgeons Section of the Society for Vascular Surgery. He is recently elected as Secretary of the ACS Foundation Board. A Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, Dr. Mouawad also holds Membership with the Royal College Surgeons in Edinburgh and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow.
