Winning Consumers in the Age of AI: Beyond Search, Clicks, and Traditional SEO

Track Sponsored By: A Place for Mom

Consumer search behavior is undergoing a fundamental transformation. As Google increasingly answers questions directly on search results pages and AI assistants provide recommendations without sending users to websites, senior living marketing teams face a new challenge: how do you remain visible, trusted, and chosen when consumers may never click through to your site? This session explores how senior living organizations can adapt their marketing strategies for a "no-click" and AI-driven discovery environment. Panelists will discuss how large language models (LLMs), AI-powered search experiences, and evolving consumer behaviors are reshaping the buyer journey for prospective residents and family caregivers. Attendees will learn practical approaches to building digital authority, improving brand visibility across AI ecosystems, creating content that influences AI-generated recommendations, and developing acquisition strategies that drive measurable results beyond traditional website traffic metrics. Marketing leaders will leave with a framework for optimizing their digital presence, strengthening consumer trust, and ensuring their communities are accurately represented and discoverable in the age of AI.

Your Agency Bill Is an Engagement Problem

Most senior living operators treat agency as a staffing shortfall to be managed with hiring and coverage tools. That framing misses the real story. Agency spend is a lagging indicator of a deeper issue: employee engagement and retention. When staff disengage, they leave, and every departure creates a coverage gap that creates agency opportunity. Chasing the bill without addressing why people leave in the first place guarantees the cycle repeats.

This session brings together an operator's ground-level view and a workforce analytics perspective to reframe how leaders think about agency reliance. Annette Greely, President/CEO of American Baptist Homes of the Midwest, will share how her organization cut agency usage by more than 75% while improving retention and resident satisfaction, not through technology solutions or vendor negotiations, but through culture, communication, and consistent frontline leadership. Matt Strange, Chief Operating Officer of Procare HR, will walk through the workforce metrics that reveal where engagement is breaking down before it shows up as an agency invoice, and how operators can use that data to intervene earlier.

Attendees will leave with a practical framework for connecting agency spend to engagement drivers, a set of leading indicators that predict staffing instability before it becomes a budget problem, and real examples of interventions that moved the needle at the community level. This session is built for executives and operators who are tired of treating agency labor as a rate problem and are ready to treat it as the retention and engagement problem it actually is.

When Residents Choose Risk: Documentation, Compliance, and Best Practices

As resident-centered care continues to evolve, providers are increasingly faced with situations where residents and families choose options that involve varying degrees of risk. Whether related to mobility, medication management, dining choices, community access, or other aspects of daily living, these decisions can create tension between honoring individual autonomy and meeting organizational obligations for safety and regulatory compliance.

This session explores the effective use of negotiated risk agreements and other practical tools that support informed choice, shared decision-making, and person-centered care. Participants will examine strategies for documenting resident preferences, facilitating meaningful conversations with residents and families, assessing and communicating risk, and creating collaborative plans that respect individual rights while promoting safety and quality of life.

Beyond negotiated risk agreements, the session will address broader risk management considerations, including clinical, operational, legal, regulatory, reputational, and organizational risks that arise when residents choose to live with risk. Attendees will gain practical approaches for navigating complex situations, reducing conflict, strengthening documentation, and fostering partnerships with residents and families.

The Employee Experience Is a Leadership Strategy

Senior living organizations invest significant time and resources into improving employee engagement, strengthening culture, and increasing retention. While these efforts often include new programs, policies, and initiatives, one of the greatest influences on the employee experience is something far less tangible: the everyday actions of leaders.

This session challenges executive leaders to rethink employee experience as a leadership strategy rather than an HR initiative. Drawing on real-world lessons from building an Associate Experience function within a multi-site senior living organization, participants will explore how leaders shape the moments that matter most, from onboarding and communication to coaching, recognition, development, and trust.

Rather than introducing another program to implement, this session focuses on the leadership behaviors that create workplaces where people feel supported, valued, and empowered to do their best work. Attendees will examine practical examples, identify opportunities to strengthen leadership at every level of their organization, and leave with actionable strategies they can immediately apply to improve the employee experience.

When leaders intentionally create the conditions for people to thrive, stronger engagement, healthier organizational culture, and improved retention become the natural result.

This session is designed for organizations that ready to build a more thoughtful, sustainable approach.

The Evolution of the Sales Director Role: From Tour Takers to Revenue Leaders and What Comes Next

Track Sponsored By: A Place for Mom

The role of the Sales Director in senior living has undergone a dramatic transformation over the past three decades. What once centered on tours and occupancy tracking has evolved into a complex, data-informed, cross-functional leadership role responsible for driving revenue, influencing operations, and shaping the customer experience. This session takes participants on a journey through the evolution of the role—from the 1990s, 2000s, through today’s highly integrated, performance-driven environment. Using real-world comparisons, historical context, and interactive discussion, attendees will examine how expectations, skill sets, and success metrics have shifted over time. Rather than simply reflecting on change, this workshop challenges participants to evaluate whether their current organizational expectations, training systems, and leadership development practices have evolved at the same pace as the role itself. Through guided exercises and peer discussion, attendees will identify gaps between legacy expectations and modern requirements—and design a forward-looking model for what high-performing sales leadership should look like in the next phase of industry growth. This session is structured as a guided evolution exercise. Participants will begin by reviewing a “1990s Sales Director Profile,” a “2010s Transitional Profile,” and a “Modern Sales Director Profile.” In small groups, they will identify: • What has been added to the role over time • What has been lost or deprioritized • Where organizations are still operating with outdated expectations Participants will then engage in a future-state design exercise, where they will define what a “next-generation Sales Director” should look like. The session concludes discussing alignment with today's role demands.

One Process, Every Community: How Growing Operators Standardize Revenue Without Heading Headcount

Track Sponsored By: Sage

Upload Image

Most senior living groups don't set out to run five different billing processes, it happens as they grow. A community comes online with the system it already had, a workaround gets baked in to cover a gap, and a few acquisitions later the back office is reconciling by hand and hoping the numbers hold at month-end. This session examines how operators are solving that problem: not by adding headcount, but by standardizing revenue operations across their portfolios. Drawing on real-world operator experience, the discussion gets into the hard parts too: the workflows that resist change, and what the back office looks like now that billing and claims run the same way across the portfolio. There is no long presentation. After a few minutes of framing from the panel, the room opens up. We want to hear where revenue operations are straining for the operators in attendance and compare notes on what has and hasn't worked. The goal is for people to leave with a couple of ideas they can use on Monday.

The Last Step in Medication Safety: Closing the Real-Time Verification Gap

Senior living has digitized nearly everything - pharmacy orders, eMARs, workflows. But the final step, confirming what's in the caregiver's hand matches the order, still happens on faith. That's where safety fails. It stays invisible until a survey citation, a lawsuit, or a resident is harmed.

This session names the blind spot every operator inherits: eMARs can document the plan, but they cannot see the medication being administered. Drawing on years writing medication policy, training medication technicians, and carrying the audits and liability that come with running the medroom, this session breaks down exactly where visibility disappears between documentation and administration - and what it takes to close that gap.

Attendees will leave with:

- A clear framework for finding where their own medroom loses visibility

- Practical ways to strengthen accountability without adding to caregiver burden

- What real-time verification changes for survey readiness, quality assurance, and staff development

- How to evaluate emerging verification technology without overpromising to boards, families, or staff

Built for executives who own the outcome: COOs, VPs of Clinical Operations, Quality and Risk leaders, and owner/operators accountable for both resident safety and regulatory exposure. The last foot of medication administration is senior living's biggest unmanaged risk. This session gives leaders a way to see it, measure it, and close it.

Today he leads MedHalo's work bringing that same standard to senior living communities everywhere.

Leveraging the Value of a Great Dining Program

Across senior living, leaders are navigating a difficult balancing act. They are managing persistent cost pressure, staffing instability, and rising resident expectations at the same time that they are being asked to strengthen occupancy, protect margins, and deliver a more differentiated community experience. In that environment, dining can no longer be treated as a support service alone. It has become one of the clearest expressions of a community's value proposition and one of the most visible drivers of resident satisfaction, reputation, and long-term performance.

That shift is being accelerated by what the industry is seeing in real time. Senior living dining leaders are contending with inflation, workforce demands, and higher expectations for flexibility, personalization, and wellness-driven experiences. At the same time, organizations across the sector are investing in smarter workflows, dining technology, and experience-first strategies because they understand that dining now influences far more than daily operations. It shapes resident perception. It supports loyalty. It contributes to how communities compete.

This creates an important opportunity to reframe the conversation. The real issue is not whether communities should invest in dining. The question is how they can strengthen performance as well as identity, culture, and control that make their communities distinct.

Annie Boltz/Corporate Director of Culinary Operations at Wesley Willows will join the session to share best practices on how she manages the cost pressure while keeping the focus on creating excellence and hospitality in their dining programs.

From Fragmented to Connected: Using CRM and AI to Drive Revenue Growth

Track Sponsored By: A Place for Mom

This session will demonstrate how leading operators break down data silos with CRM and Al to align sales and marketing, accelerate the buyer journey, and deliver measurable, revenue-driving results. Senior living executives face mounting pressure to grow occupancy, control costs, and clearly demonstrate marketing ROI while many still struggle with fragmented systems and inconsistent sales performance. In this session, one operator shares how they partnered with Yardi to unify CRM and Al-driven sales and marketing tools into a single revenue engine, complemented by aggregated operator data provided by Yardi. Attendees will learn how connecting data across the buyer journey improves lead-to-move-in conversion, aligns sales and marketing teams, and enables board-ready reporting that clearly links activity, performance, and revenue outcomes. Attendee Engagement Using live Slido polls, attendees can benchmark their buyer journey metrics and reporting challenges against the operator case study and Yardi's aggregated industry data, followed by a practical takeaway framework they can apply immediately.

Katie Ellison leads marketing for a 21-community senior living portfolio at SRG Senior Living, where she's spent the last several years figuring out how to make marketing data actually useful to the people running the business, not just reportable, but usable.

Before senior living, she spent years in hospitality marketing, working across hotel portfolios where the same tension existed: ownership wants results, operations wants support, and marketing is stuck translating between the two. That experience shaped how she thinks about this new phase of senior living, where owners are more involved in performance than ever and old assumptions, like "occupancy dropped, so send more leads," don't hold up the way they used to.

Katie will talk about what it actually looks like to build a real, working relationship with ownership around data. One where marketing isn't just answering questions, but helping ask the right ones.

Driving Adoption at Scale: Turning Leadership Priorities into Community-Level Action

Senior living organizations don't struggle to identify the right priorities, they struggle to drive consistent adoption at the community level. Even well-designed initiatives often stall when Executive Directors are overburdened, pilots are poorly scoped, or success isn't defined in a way that resonates across communities.

In this panel discussion, top operators and clinical leaders will share a practical framework for moving from strategy to sustained execution. Panelists will explore how to thoughtfully phase pilots, select the right communities, and set clear success criteria, while avoiding common pitfalls like overlapping initiatives and "initiative fatigue."

Just as importantly, the session will focus on the human side of adoption: building true buy-in from Executive Directors and community teams by creating the right support structures, not simply adding more to their plates. Attendees will leave with actionable strategies to design pilots that generate measurable outcomes, create internal momentum, and drive broader participation across their portfolios.

Before the Fall: How AI-Enabled Proactive Care Reduced Falls by 70%

Falls, hospitalizations, and staff burnout are not isolated clinical challenges - they are signs of a reactive care model that no longer meets the demands of today's senior living environment. As resident acuity rises and staffing pressures continue, senior living leaders must rethink how care teams identify risk, prioritize interventions, and act before incidents occur.

This session will explore how Westminster Village in Scottsdale, Arizona used AI-enabled, non-camera-based technology to support a shift from reactive response to proactive care. By turning resident activity patterns, mobility trends, disrupted sleep, restlessness, and changes in routine into actionable care insights, the team was able to identify concerns earlier, prioritize interventions more effectively, and reduce falls by more than 70% while preserving resident privacy and dignity. The session also explores the power of measuring what matters at scale: continuous population-level insights can reveal early risks and predictors that would otherwise remain invisible and make them actionable across communities.

Through this real-world case study, Katherine Barney, MHA, BSN, RN, Assisted Living Manager at Westminster Village, will show how a nursing-led team implemented proactive care workflows in daily operations and how earlier visibility into resident change can help teams intervene before concerns escalate into falls, hospital transfers, or broader clinical decline.

Attendees will leave with practical strategies to integrate proactive insights into daily care routines, support staff adoption, identify early risk factors and predictors that can inform intervention, measure progress and outcomes through meaningful KPIs, and advance a more proactive, resident-centered model of senior living care.

The Early Warning System: Connecting Resident Experience and Clinical Wellness to Identify Risk Earlier

Most resident decline doesn't happen suddenly. Early indicators often emerge weeks or months before a significant health event. Yet these signals frequently exist across disconnected departments and systems, making them difficult to recognize in a timely manner.

This session will explore how senior living organizations can adopt a whole-person wellness approach to identify risk earlier, intervene more effectively, and improve resident outcomes. Clinical and resident experience leaders will share how their organization is breaking down silos between clinical care, resident experience, and operations to create a more comprehensive understanding of resident well-being. They will discuss how changes in engagement, routines, behaviors, clinical and wellness indicators, and staff observations can reveal emerging concerns-and how interoperability within the technology ecosystem can bring diverse data sources together to support proactive decision-making.

Importantly, identifying early signals is only valuable if organizations know how to respond. Attendees will learn practical strategies for identifying residents at risk for isolation, disengagement, or decline; synthesizing whole-person wellness insights across departments; and implementing targeted, personalized interventions that align teams around shared wellness goals, support resident well-being, and reduce avoidable decline. As resident acuity rises and expectations for personalized care continue to grow, organizations that can recognize and act on early indicators of change will be better positioned to improve resident stability, support longer well-being trajectories, strengthen quality outcomes, and reduce the need for reactive interventions.

Turning Data Into Better Decisions: How Leading Operators Improve Performance Without Adding Complexity

Senior living organizations have access to more data than ever before, yet many leadership teams still struggle to turn that information into meaningful action. Data often exists across multiple systems, reports, and departments, creating complexity instead of clarity.

This interactive discussion brings together a senior living operator and their technology partner to explore how better access to data can support stronger decision-making across the organization. Attendees will hear firsthand how improved visibility, clearer reporting, and easier access to information have helped leadership teams spend less time searching for answers and more time acting on them.

Through a candid conversation about challenges, lessons learned, and practical strategies, the session will explore how data can help align teams, support occupancy goals, improve operational efficiency, and create greater confidence in executive decision-making.

Participants will be encouraged to share their own experiences and engage in peer discussion around common reporting challenges and opportunities for improvement.

Key Takeaways:

Identify the data that matters most for executive decision-making.

Reduce reporting complexity and improve visibility across teams.

Align teams around shared performance insights.

Apply practical strategies to turn information into action.

From Burnout to Belonging: Staffing Memory Support for What Actually Matters

Memory support teams are being asked to do more with less: support residents with complex needs, manage family expectations, reduce distress, document outcomes, and create moments of connection while facing turnover, open positions, and burnout. Too often, staffing challenges are treated as scheduling problems rather than signals that the care model needs redesign.

This session reframes engagement as essential to health, not an optional activity layer. For Senior Living communities, that shift matters. When life enrichment is under-resourced or pushed onto already stretched nursing teams, staff exhaustion grows, residents become more isolated, and communities miss opportunities to prevent avoidable distress, improve quality of life, and strengthen family confidence.

Together, we will examine how memory support staffing can be redesigned around resident needs: belonging, purpose, routine, preference-based engagement, and consistent interdisciplinary support. The session will explore practical ways to elevate life enrichment as a core function, clarify roles across nursing, care, dining, activities, and leadership teams, and use simple data to make the case for investment.

Participants will leave with a clear framework for connecting staffing, engagement, and outcomes in memory support. We will discuss strategies to reduce turnover, improve team experience, and build routines that make engagement visible, measurable, and sustainable. Operations, Executive Directors, Clinical, and Resident Engagement leaders will gain practical ideas they can bring back to their communities to support residents and staff, creating environments where residents feel known and teams feel equipped to do meaningful work each day.

Stop the Madness: Don't Settle Unavoidable Fall Cases

All too often we settle fall cases simply to avoid the cost of defense. This may save money in the short term, but it costs significantly more in the long term. When there has been no breach of duty of the standard of care, why do we throw money at it just to clear the case? Doing so only breeds more suits. It's time to throttle frivolous fall cases, to make plaintiffs work, and to resist the temptation to get out cheaply even when the case is eminently winnable.

How a Boring, Age-Old Topic Has Become One of the Most Innovative Opportunities to Reduce Cost, Improve Outcomes, and Drive Revenue in Senior Living

This fireside chat, will explore how senior living operators can reframe incontinence from a routine cost center into a strategic area of innovation. The conversation will examine the connection between incontinence and three costly, ongoing realities in senior living: urinary tract infections, falls, and skin integrity issues. Audience and speakers will discuss how these issues affect resident well-being, antibiotic stewardship, caregiver workflow, risk exposure, and financial performance.

Incontinence may be one of the oldest topics in senior living, but it has become one of the most innovative opportunities to improve care, reduce cost, and rethink operations. The issue itself is not going away. Neither are the downstream challenges it influences most directly: UTIs, falls, skin breakdown, staff burden, and avoidable expense. The real opportunity is not to "solve" these problems once and for all, but to manage them more intelligently.

Audience participation will be built into the session through guided discussion, real-world scenarios, and interactive questions that help attendees compare their own challenges and approaches with peers.

Designing for Dignity: How the Memory Care Environment Drives Resident Success, Staff Engagement, and Operational Outcomes

The physical and emotional environment in memory care is not neutral-it either supports success or creates barriers. Yet in many communities, environments unintentionally drift toward overstimulation, disengagement, or institutional routines that limit independence.

This session will explore how intentional environmental design in memory care directly impacts:

 Resident engagement and independence

 Behavioral expression and emotional well-being

 Staff workflow and coaching opportunities

Overall quality and consistency of care delivery

Using real-world examples from a variety of memory care neighborhoods, participants will examine how small but meaningful environmental shifts-across dining, engagement spaces, and transitions-can transform outcomes.

This is not a design theory session. Attendees will leave with practical, immediately applicable strategies to assess and improve their own environments while protecting against common pitfalls such as institutional care models or over-supporting residents.

From Skepticism to Scale: How Asbury Transformed Hiring and Elevated the Employee Experience Through AI and Human Expertise

Senior living leaders face persistent workforce pressures: labor shortages, rising recruitment costs, turnover, and increasing demands on talent teams. While artificial intelligence (AI) has generated excitement, many operators remain hesitant-questioning trust, implementation complexity, and whether technology can support the human-centered culture that defines both senior living and employee experience.

At Asbury Communities, workforce transformation has never been solely about efficiency, but about strengthening the employee experience from the start. A 9-time Great Place to Work winner, Asbury exceeds national benchmarks in pride, camaraderie, and respect by focusing on hiring the right people at the right time-recognizing that culture begins before day one.

This session explores how Asbury moved beyond skepticism to implement AI-powered hiring tools and predictive workforce insights while preserving human connection. By leveraging predictive signals and emerging technologies, Asbury built scalable strategies that reduce administrative burden and allow recruiters to focus on meaningful candidate relationships.

Leaders will gain insight into overcoming resistance, building trust, and positioning AI as an enhancement to human expertise. Live audience polling will enable participants to benchmark workforce challenges, AI adoption readiness, and trust levels against peers, guiding real-time discussion and shared learning.

Attendees will also explore measurable outcomes, including reductions in overall turnover (40% to 23.7%) and new hire turnover (120% to 58%). Participants will leave with actionable strategies to evaluate technology investments, drive ROI, and strengthen employee experience while maintaining the human connection critical to senior living.

Stories That Move People: Celebrating the Storytellers Changing Senior Living

Track Sponsored By: A Place for Mom

Every senior living organization has stories capable of changing how people think, feel, and act. A resident’s unexpected achievement can challenge assumptions about aging. An employee’s act of compassion can reveal an organization’s culture more powerfully than a recruitment campaign. A family’s experience can build trust with prospective residents long before they schedule a tour. A simple moment shared authentically can reach thousands of people and remind an entire team why their work matters. This panel discussion will celebrate the senior living professionals who are finding, developing, and sharing those stories. Rather than discussing storytelling in the abstract, the session will place the panelists and their real-world successes at the center of the conversation. Sales, marketing, and resident engagement leaders from senior living owner/operator organizations will each share a story that created a meaningful impact within their community, organization, or broader audience. The stories may have supported sales, recruitment, resident engagement, family trust, employee pride, media visibility, community reputation, or public understanding of senior living. The session will celebrate these successes while helping executive leaders identify the common elements that make stories memorable, credible, and capable of inspiring action. The national I Love Senior Living movement will be woven throughout the discussion as a platform for elevating these stories and encouraging more residents, families, employees, and communities to share what senior living truly looks and feels like.

Compliance Blind Spots: State Nutrition Rules Every Senior Living Leader Needs to Know

Keeping up with compliance is getting harder. With evolving requirements and limited bandwidth, teams are looking for practical ways to mitigate risk - without adding more complexity to already demanding days.

Here's a surprising reality: many culinary leaders believe there are little to no state nutrition-related regulations that apply to their operations. In fact, many states have requirements tied to therapeutic diets, menu oversight, hydration protocols, documentation and nutrition services - and that gap in awareness represents a significant risk.

This session turns that blind spot into an opportunity. We'll examine what state nutrition regulations actually require, where communities are most vulnerable and what proactive approaches lead to better resident outcomes and stronger survey performance.

Senior living operators are juggling enormous responsibilities and deserve support systems that make compliance easier to manage - not harder. That means simplified workflows, better visibility into nutrition-related risks, standardized documentation, connected technology and access to dietitian expertise when it's needed most.

This is especially critical for teams who are already balancing hospitality-focused dining with increasing clinical complexity.

Walk away with clarity, confidence and a practical roadmap for closing your compliance blind spots.

From Silos to Shared Accountability: Creating an Operating Model that Aligns Sales, Wellness, and Operations for Sustainable Occupancy

Occupancy growth is rarely a sales problem-or an operations problem. More often, it is an alignment problem.

Many senior living organizations unintentionally create competing priorities between operations, wellness, and sales. Sales teams are focused on generating move-ins, while wellness is focused on resident care, and operations are focused on staffing, daily execution and expense controls. Without intentional alignment, accountability becomes fragmented, communication becomes reactive, and opportunities to improve occupancy are lost.

This interactive workshop featuring case studies, facilitated discussion, and collaborative problem solving explores how executive leaders can create a shared operating model that aligns sales, wellness, and operations around common goals, shared metrics, and coordinated decision-making.

Using real-world case studies, participants will analyze common organizational breakdowns, identify where accountability becomes disconnected, and develop practical strategies to improve collaboration across regional leaders, Executive Directors, Sales Directors, Wellness Directors, and support teams.

Rather than focusing on organizational theory, this session provides practical frameworks for establishing clear ownership, effective meeting rhythms, cross-functional communication, and executive accountability that support both occupancy growth and operational excellence.

Participants will leave with actionable tools that strengthen collaboration, improve execution, and create sustainable occupancy growth across their organizations.
