Not All Delusions are Schizophrenia: Understanding Delusional Disorders and the Overlap with Substance Induced Psychosis

While psychosis is common in schizophrenia or bipolar mania, there are many other causes of the psychosis symptoms. This session will help you learn to differentiate other causes of psychosis, including substance induced, delusional disorders, and medical causes of psychosis symptoms. Faculty will provide practical guidance on how to examine the temporal nature of the psychotic symptoms, the distinguishing features of different symptoms, and associated assessment technology, such as labs and imaging to arrive at a differential diagnosis. Utilizing a historic case presentation, learners will remember that it is sometimes not only the symptoms that are present, but also those that are absent, that help us to make a correct diagnosis. Participants will also gain practical skills for the management of these conditions.
