75 min
Saturday, September 19, 2026
2:45 PM - 4:00 PM
As patients remain on psychotropic medications for longer periods and treatment regimens become increasingly complex, psychiatric prescribers are frequently faced with difficult questions about when, why, and how to deprescribe. This session explores the clinical judgment required to balance potential benefits of medication reduction against the risks of relapse, withdrawal, and destabilization. Faculty will review practical approaches to identifying appropriate candidates for deprescribing, engaging patients in shared decision-making, and implementing safe tapering strategies across a range of psychiatric conditions. Participants will gain evidence-informed guidance for navigating deprescribing conversations and making thoughtful, individualized medication decisions in everyday practice.
