Katie Hahn
I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis at the age of 17. Now 41, I have spent more than half my life learning how to navigate the physical, emotional, and psychological challenges that can come with a chronic illness.
My journey with psychology began during one of the most difficult periods of my life, when I struggled to form thoughts and sentences without crying and had difficulty controlling my emotions. With the help of my doctor and psychologist, I learned to navigate pseudobulbar affect, depression, and anxiety and eventually found the right treatment that helped me feel like myself again.
My story isn’t one of having everything figured out. It is a story about hard truths, literal tough falls, unexpected turns, and learning that there can be a silver lining in almost everything—sometimes you just have to really want to see it.
Outside of sharing my story, I can usually be found laughing with friends, enjoying the outdoors, finding my happy place somewhere near the water. I am incredibly grateful to be walking and talking along with my amazing family, friends, and of course my best dog and cat friend.
