Dr. Hoptman is a research scientist at Nathan Kline Institute and an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at NYU Langone Medical Center. He received his PhD in Biopsychology in 1991 from the University of Chicago. He has been working at NKI since 1994 and has had a faculty appointment at NYU Medical Center since that time. His research focus is on impulsivity, aggression, and suicidality in schizophrenia as relates to brain functional and structural connectivity, and he is interested in integrating imaging methods, including MRI, EEG, and neuromodulation. He is a charter member of the Association for Psychological Science and is a member of the Society of Biological Psychiatry, Society for Research in Psychopathology, and the Society for Neuroscience. He has served on numerous NIH grant review panels and has been funded by NIH, NARSAD, and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, including a current NIMH R01 grant on emotional impulsivity and suicidal ideation and behavior in schizophrenia and depression. He has also served as guest editor on two special issues for Frontiers in Psychiatry.
