Dr. Melnick received his medical degree in Bayamon, Puerto Rico and went on to do his residency in psychiatry and fellowship in geriatric psychiatry at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital.He continues to be involved in education as an Assistant Professor at Florida International University School of medicine. He continues to be involved in education through his role giving grand rounds at major universities and hospitals around the world.

Cannabis Use and Mental Illness: What We Now Know (and Don’t)

Cannabis-related psychiatric complications are increasing due to rising THC potency, novel formulations, and widespread use among adolescents and young adults. This session reviews data on cannabis-induced psychosis, effects on depression and bipolar disorder, dose-response relationships, withdrawal, and risk reduction. Faculty will discuss assessment tools, cannabis tapering strategies, and treatment pathways for cannabis use disorder. Participants will gain practical guidance for counseling patients, addressing misconceptions, and integrating evidence-based interventions into clinical care.

Andrew Penn, MS, PMHNP is a Professor in the University of California, San Francisco, School of Nursing where his teaching has received the UCSF Academic Senate Distinction in Teaching Award, among other recognitions. Trained as a psychiatric/mental health nurse practitioner, he directs clinical nursing operations for Salma Health an early stage psychiatric interventional treatment clinical company. As a researcher, he has collaborated on psychedelics studies of psilocybin and MDMA in the Translational Psychedelics Research (TrPR) and the Carhart-Harris labs at UCSF. A leading voice in nursing, he is a cofounder of the Organization of Psychedelic and Entheogenic Nurses (OPENurses.org), advocating for the perspective of nurses in psychedelic therapy, he has published on psychedelics in the American Journal of Nursing, Frontiers in Psychiatry, The Journal of Humanistic Psychotherapy, and JAMA. An internationally invited speaker, he has lectured at SXSW, Aspen Health Ideas Festival, TEDx, the Singapore Ministry of Health, and Oxford University and can be found at Andrewpennnp.com.

Christoph Correll is Professor of Psychiatry at The Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell, New York, USA, and also Professor and Chair of the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Charité University Medicine, Berlin, Germany. He completed his medical studies at the Free University of Berlin in Germany, and Dundee University Medical School in Scotland. He is board certified in general psychiatry and child and adolescent psychiatry, having completed both residencies at The Zucker Hillside Hospital, NY. Since 1997, he has been working in New York, USA, and since 2017 he is also working in Germany again.

Dr. Correll focuses on the early identification and treatment of youth and adults with severe mental illness, clinical trials, epidemiology, psychopharmacology, meta-analyses, and physical health in mental health. He has published over 1000 journal articles that have been cited more than 94.000 times, and in 05/2025, his h-index was 153, being >100 in the last 5 years alone. He has received over 40 research awards. Since 2014, the beginning of this metric, he has been listed every year by Clarivate/Web of Science as one of the “most influential scientific minds” and “top 1% cited scientists in the area of psychiatry”. Additionally, he has been holding numerous Expertscape rankings based on the number of publications and citations in the past 10 years, including in 05/2025 being ranked number one among world experts in 9 areas, including “central nervous system agents”, “psychotropic drugs“, “schizophrenia”, “schizophrenia spectrum/other psychotic disorders”, “antipsychotics”, “delayed action preparations” and “weight gain”.

MasterClass: Operationalizing Adherence: A Practical Guide to LAI Integration in Schizophrenia Care

Long-acting injectable antipsychotics can improve adherence and long-term outcomes when implemented thoughtfully and collaboratively. This session reviews current evidence and guideline recommendations, compares available LAI formulations, and provides practical strategies for initiating, administering, and reintroducing LAIs using patient-centered communication techniques.<br><br>Supported by educational grants from Alkermes, Inc., Johnson & Johnson, and Teva Pharmaceuticals.

Megan Ehret

Dr. Ehret is a graduate of the University of Toledo where she completed her BS and PharmD degrees, and she went on to complete a Psychiatric Pharmacy Residency at the Louis Stokes VAMC. She then completed a Psychopharmacology and Pharmacogenomics Fellowship at Nova Southeastern University. After training she received her initial faculty appointment at the University of Connecticut and gained tenure during her stay there. While at the University of Connecticut, Dr. Ehret served as the Vice-Chair of the IRB, Director of Practices for the Center for Correctional Health Networks, and a faculty member for Project: ECHO: Buprenorphine. Currently, her full-time role is a Professor, Vice-Chair of Academic Affairs, and Co-Director of the Mental Health Program at the University Of Maryland School Of Pharmacy. Additionally, she also has the privilege of working with the State of Maryland Medicaid Program in evaluating antipsychotic use in the state, including development of clinical criteria for antipsychotics and authorizing and reviewing psychotropic use in the pediatric population. She is a Past-President of AAPP. Dr. Ehret has worked with the State of Maryland to establish regulations permitting community pharmacists the authority to administer maintenance injections. She has developed an interactive training program for students in administering long-acting injectable medications. Dr. Ehret has numerous publications and book chapters describing psychotropic medication adherence and the role of pharmacogenomics in medication selection.

Dr. Emma Nelson is from Rockville, Maryland. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Brigham Young University and her Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy. Currently, she is completing a managed care fellowship with the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy and the Maryland Department of Health's Office of Pharmacy Services as well as her MBA. Her professional interests center on managed care and the evolving landscape of insurance. She aspires to work for a major insurance provider in the future. Outside of work, Emma enjoys spending time outdoors- especially hiking, swimming, and tending to her growing collection of plants.

Amber Hoberg is a dedicated Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) with extensive experience spanning various clinical settings and populations. She holds a master’s degree in advanced practice nursing, specializing in Family Psychiatric Mental Health, obtained from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio in 2010. Her career is marked by a commitment to providing evidence-based, individualized psychiatric care to patients across the lifespan, including children/adolescents, adults, and geriatric populations.
Currently based in Hillsboro, Oregon, at Visionary Psychiatry, Amber serves as a PMHNP-BC, focusing on nursing home and group home settings. Her role includes collaborating with others on the treatment team to ensure comprehensive care and managing EMAR and e-Prescribing documentation. She also practices at Morning Star Family Medicine PLLC in Floresville, Texas, where she practices and manages medication regimens for residents across outpatient, nursing home, and group home settings. Here, she collaborates closely with case managers, nurses, and psychological care teams, overseeing care for a substantial patient load. Her diverse clinical background includes roles at Northeast/Downtown Baptist Hospital in San Antonio, where she manages acute psychiatric care in an inpatient setting, working closely with psychiatrists and medical staff to deliver comprehensive treatment plans.

Kevin N. Williams MS, MPAS, PA-C is the CEO and Lead Clinician at OnPoint Behavioral Health. He is a Physician Associate that specializes in Psychiatry and has a mission to provide care that is experienced, holistic, and compassionate. He holds two master degrees in Interdisciplinary Medical Sciences and Physician Assistant Studies from the University of South Florida and South University respectively. He has gained experience treating children, adolescents, and adults for the past 11 years in the areas of inpatient, outpatient, and long-term care. Kevin has 10 years of experience teaching as an Adjunct Professor at several institutions around the country. Kevin also has over 10 years in executive leadership experience and maintains a passion of educating others to lead with effective influence. He has participated in mission work abroad and has enjoyed volunteering in several organizations in the Tampa Bay community. He enjoys spending time with his family along with his hobbies of aviation and traveling abroad.
