Steven Chan is a triple board-certified clinical informaticist, psychiatrist, and addiction medicine physician. He serves as Clinical Associate Professor at Stanford University School of Medicine and Immediate Past Chair of the Committee on Innovation at the American Psychiatric Association. Steven’s research and ideas have been featured in publications such as JAMA, Telemedicine and e-Health, JMIR, and Wired, and media appearances on PBS and NPR. He is a sought-after national speaker, having presented at Fortune 50 companies like Google headquarters.

He serves as Co-Director of Frontier Technology Lab in Stanford Engineering. At Stanford Psychiatry TechHub, he serves on the Leadership Committee. He additionally volunteers on the Board of Directors at Mental Health America.

In addition to his academic and clinical roles, Steven is the Chief Technology Officer and co-founder of AsyncHealth, a University of California-backed digital mental health AI agent startup supported by Berkeley SkyDeck PAD-13 and the National Science Foundation’s Innovation Corps (NSF i-Corps). Steven’s contributions to the field of digital mental health have made him a respected figure in both academic and industry circles.
