Jonathan Williams, DNP, PMHNP-BC, CARN-AP currently provides outpatient psychiatrics services for UW-Health. His current clinical focus has changed to geriatric psychiatry, and treating patients with behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia. He also will work as inpatient/consult liaison for UnityPoint Meriter Hospital psychiatric unit and services. Jonathan has worked for more than 9 years in the field of psychiatry, and prior to that worked extensively in the nursing field in acute care, psychiatry, cardiovascular, and neurology. Prior to transitioning to UW-Health, Jonathan worked as a outpatient psychiatric provider for a Federally Qualified Community Health Center for underserved communities of Northern Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Michigan. Jonathan started studying addictions in detail during his outpatient practice when he saw a huge increase of use in his patient panel. Focus was mainly on cannabis, as at the time, minimal information was available to providers on the use of the substance. Goals were to not only educate patient in the effects of the substance, but also other providers to assist in treatment and understanding. Jonathan recently recieved his credentialing for addiction nurse practitioner, in order to further improve his skills in this realm. Jonathan's next goal is to obtain his PhD/Research for further study of the neurotransmitter effect of cannabis on the brain.
