Frank Veith

Dr. Veith graduated from Cornell with Honors and completed his residency at the Brigham Hospital and Harvard. In the 1970s and 1980s, Dr. Veith succeeded with his pioneering work in lung transplantation. His clinical interest always involved Vascular Surgery with an emphasis on limb revascularizations. He and his colleagues were the first to advocate an aggressive approach to saving threatened limbs when most patients with this problem underwent amputations. In the late 1980s, Dr. Veith became increasingly involved with endovascular treatments. His group performed the first endovascular aneurysm repair or EVAR in the US. They also were the first to treat a ruptured AAA by EVAR. Dr. Veith has been a leader in every national and international vascular society. He has received numerous honors as a leader and innovator. He is Professor of Surgery at New York University and the Cleveland Clinic where he is the von Liebig Chair in Vascular Surgery. Dr. Veith leads the largest Vascular Surgery meeting held annually in New York City. In 2010, Dr. Veith received the SVS Distinguished Lifetime Achievement Award. In 2013 an endowed Veith Chair was established in his honor at New York University. In 2016, Dr. Veith was honored to receive the ISET Lifetime Achievement Award. He has also received Lifetime Achievement awards from Charing Cross, SITE, VIVA, CVC and ESCVS/IMAD meetings. In June, 2022, the SVS established the Frank J Veith Lectureship to be held at the annual VAM meeting of the SVS beginning in 2023.
