Nicolas Mouawad

Dr. Mike Watts attended the University of Buffalo for his medical training, earning his MD in 2006, completed surgical internship and radiology residency at the Cleveland Clinic in 2011 and his fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania in 2012. He was the fellowship director for interventional radiology at the University of Pennsylvania and the director of interventional radiology at the Philadelphia VA until 2016. Since then he has been committed to limb preservation, treating CLI on a full-time basis in an outpatient setting. He currently practices at the Vascular Institute of Atlantic Medical Imaging.

Dr Nicolas J Mouawad serves as Chief of Vascular Surgery, Chair of Cardiovascular Research and Chair of the Department of Surgery at McLaren Health in Bay City. He specializes in advanced surgical vascular care, including aortic pathologies, carotid revascularization, expanded endovascular therapies, complex CLTI/PAD and venous disorders including DVT and PE.

Dr. Mouawad earned his medical degree at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and completed a general surgery residency and chief residency at Trinity Health System, Ann Arbor, MI. He also completed a vascular surgery fellowship at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, Columbus, OH. He has long focused as a health services professional and pursued a MBA with a concentration in health care and hospital administration as well as a Master in Public Health with a dual focus on health policy & management and health education & promotion. He also completed the Leadership Program for Health Policy and Management at The Heller School for Social Policy and Management at Brandeis University. He was selected as the 2018 American College of Surgeons / Society for Vascular Surgery Health Policy Scholar.

An active researcher, Dr. Mouawad has served as principal investigator of multiple clinical research trials spanning the breadth of vascular disease and has authored or co-authored more than 100 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters. He has presented his work at more than 200 international, national, regional, and local conferences and symposia, including the annual meetings of the Society for Vascular Surgery, Charing Cross, Veith Symposium and others.
