Samuel Yamshon

Matthew Lunning, D.O., FACP, is a Tenured Professor and Chief in the Division of Hematology at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC). He serves as the inaugural holder of the James O. Armitage, M.D., Chair of Hematologic Malignancies and is the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Clinical Research. He is also the Medical Director of Gene and Cellular Therapies at Nebraska Medicine.

Dr. Lunning received his medical degree from Des Moines University in 2006 and completed his internal medicine residency at UNMC, where he served as Chief Medical Resident. He went on to complete his Hematology/Oncology fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, serving as Chief Fellow in Hematology. He returned to UNMC in 2013 and has remained actively engaged in clinical research, patient care, mentoring, and medical education. In 2019, he was recognized with the Distinguished Scientist Award.

Dr. Lunning’s work focuses on hematologic malignancies, with an emphasis on lymphoma and cellular therapies. He has served on multiple National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) guideline panels, including Immunotherapy Toxicity and T-cell Lymphomas, and has been an invited member of ASCO’s Cancer Education Committee for Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma. He is also a co-organizer of the Pan Pacific Lymphoma and Pan Pacific Leukemia Conferences.

Dr. Samuel Yamshon is the Director of the Cellular Therapy Service at NYU Langone Health, with a clinical focus on caring for patients with lymphoma, including immunotherapy and CAR T cell therapy. His research is focused on collaboration with translational scientists to develop clinical trials of novel therapeutic combinations to improve upon the efficacy of existing therapies, as well as clinical outcomes research with a goal of better understanding the efficacy, toxicity, and access to these new treatments. Dr. Yamshon is a recipient of several grants including the Lymphoma Research Foundation Career Development Award and has mentored more than two dozen trainees in their journey to become the next generation of academic oncologists.

Dr. Wendy Béguelin is an Assistant Professor at New York University working in the field of lymphoma
epigenetics and experimental therapeutics. She obtained her PhD at the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina.
As undergraduate and graduate student at the University of Buenos Aires she received extensive training in the
investigation of cell biology and signal transduction with studies on epigenetic gene regulation and transcription
factor binding. As a postdoctoral scientist at Weill Cornell Medical College, under the supervision and mentorship
of Prof. Ari Melnick, she has identified novel and druggable epigenetic and transcriptional mechanisms in B-cell
differentiation and lymphomagenesis, which played a critical role in the FDA approval of the first EZH2 inhibitor
Tazemetostat. She is currently an R01-funded Assistant Professor. Dr. Béguelin
characterized the role of EZH2 in humoral immunity and lymphomagenesis, and the mechanisms through which
EZH2 mutations –occurring in human lymphoma patients– reprogram the epigenome to mediate malignant
transformation. Dr. Béguelin has also mentored, supervised and trained a number of medical fellows, postdocs,
graduate and undergraduate students. Dr. Béguelin is committed to a career in lymphoma research, bringing new ideas into the field of epigenetic control of lymphomagenesis and making discoveries that can be translated into diagnostic and therapeutic
modalities to improve patient outcomes.
