Phil McCabe, CSW, CAS, DRCC
With 40 years of professional experience, including 25 years at Rutgers University, I bring extensive expertise in behavioral health, crisis intervention, and workplace violence prevention. I am a certified Disaster Response Crisis Counselor (DRCC) and a member of the American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress. As an OSHA Region II trainer, I have developed and delivered workplace violence prevention and safety programs for behavioral health and substance use treatment agencies, hospitals, and community organizations. I also serve as a trainer on sexual violence prevention for various agencies, including the New Jersey State Police, and co-developed 5 Minutes to Help for the NJ Department of Health Emergency Medical Response, a specialized training for EMTs and first responders aimed at reducing stigma and improving communication skills during opioid overdose reversals.
My career has included providing crisis support to first responders and affected communities in the aftermath of the 9/11 terrorist attacks and assisting in mental health recovery efforts in the Caribbean and Puerto Rico. Following a series of assaults on healthcare professionals, I was invited to speak at the 2018 Washington State Governor’s Industrial Safety and Health Conference. Recognized for blending evidence-based strategies with real-world case studies, I focus on strengthening organizational resilience, enhancing safety culture, and creating responsive care environments that protect both staff and clients.
