Bridging the Gap: Strengthening Ostomy Management in Long-Term Care

Ostomy management in long-term care settings presents complex clinical and operational challenges, with high rates of pouch leakage and peristomal skin complications compounded by limited staff training and inconsistent access to specialized expertise. These gaps not only increase the risk of dermatitis, stoma-related complications, and frequent appliance failure, but also contribute to emotional distress, social isolation, and caregiver burnout among residents and staff alike.
