Session Description: This session delves into the intersection of neurodivergence, psychosis, and problematic substance use. Participants will have the opportunity to deepen their clinical acumen in working with diagnosed ASD/ADHD individuals experiencing first-episode psychosis and/or co-occurring substance use challenges by learning about the diagnostic complexities, nuanced overlaps, and how to accurately assess and diagnose neurodivergent clients experiencing concurrent psychotic features. Explore evidence-based modalities like CBT and motivational interviewing tailored to this population and how to address common barriers that hinder effective care. This session highlights the importance of individualized treatment plans, the role of therapeutic alliance, and strategies to overcome common interpersonal and institutional obstacles to improve outcomes for neurodivergent clients with co-occurring psychotic and/or substance use disorders.
