10:45 AM - 12:15 PM
Location: Las Brisas 1 Session Description: This workshop will help shed light on the healthcare system and recent changes related to professional ethics, responsibility, accountability, and regulations. Attendees will review the many health care barriers to building an organizational culture and ethical climate, and the needed support by the legislative and regulatory bodies at the state and the national level. Numerous federal /state regulations define obligations for the health care field, with which healthcare organizations must comply. Any healthcare employee who violates these laws and/or regulations risks individual criminal prosecution, penalties, and civil actions for damages. The potential for conflict of interest exists at all staff levels. Healthcare policies and standards provide an infrastructure for any actual or potential conflicts of interest, so that action can be taken to ensure that such conflict does not inappropriately influence important decisions. This workshop will highlight a handful of categories of ethical conflicts on a provider and organizational level that arise and their impact on the healthcare culture.
