Strategies for Engaging Youth to Effectively Identify and Address Co-Occurring Substance Use and Serious Emotional Distress

Location: Flores 6-7 Session Description: This workshop will focus on understanding and effectively addressing critical areas of co-occurring substance use and mental health needs among youth with substance use issues, specifically focusing on serious emotional distress such as trauma, anxiety, and psychosis. Through interactive activities, participants will be taught best practices for addressing, identifying and supporting the impacts of serious emotional distress so that substance use treatment work can be done effectively. The training will provide suggestions of symptom recognition, screening, and intervention strategies with youth.
