Session Description: A phrase heard in many treatment centers these days, “I am sober. I am just using my medicine.” Referencing continued use of cannabis, ketamine, kratom, psilocybin, zaza, etc. With the legalization, increased access, decrease in perceived risk to a range of mind-mood altering substances, clients are continuing to use while in treatment and challenging clinical efforts and changing outcomes.
This presentation will explore the pharmacokinetics that will challenge early recovery. Investigate the historical and current belief systems held by clients, their families, and society that impact their treatment efforts. And broaden the understanding of the current zeitgeist of substances use care. To offer client centered care, it’s important to take this up-to-date journey of how sobriety can sometimes have an asterisk (*).
