Location: Las Brisas 1 Session Description: The most brilliant minds in addiction medicine have long understood connection, not sobriety, to be the antithesis of addiction. Not only is developmental and relational trauma a risk factor for developing substance use disorders, but the development of substance use disorders wreaks havoc on relational systems. What then is the path forward for clinicians looking to implement “connection” to improve treatment outcomes among this population?
In this session, Dr. Krista Roybal shares an evolved model of care that utilizes attachment theory as a proxy for assessing connection, wherein earned secure attachment is a protective factor for fewer relapses and long term sustainable health. This model can be utilized by individual practitioners, as well as those operating in a team setting, with a multidisciplinary team functioning as a “healthy” and secure family system.
