Session Description: Suicide is a major public health concern and a leading cause of death in the US. In 2020, suicide was the 12th leading cause of death overall in the United States, claiming the lives of over 45,900 people. Knowing the warning signs for suicide and how to get help can help save lives. Alcohol and opioid use disorders significantly increase risk for suicidal ideation, attempts, and death, and are the two most frequently implicated substances in suicide risk. Individuals with substance use disorders (SUDs) are particularly susceptible to suicide and suicide attempts as suicide is a leading cause of death among people who misuse alcohol and drugs This training will explore the signs to look out for when working in the field and identify evidence-based practices to help break the silence.
