The words we use reflect—and shape—our attitudes toward aging. In senior living, language is often learned by listening to others: words like ""elderly"" and ""facility"" carry negative connotations, while ""older adult"" and ""community"" offer dignity and connection. For employees who support older adults in their homes every day, intentional communication can transform both staff morale and resident experience.

This interactive session explores how everyday communication—speech, body language, emails, and texts—impacts workplace culture and experience. Participants will complete a mini self-assessment, compare results to national data, and practice reframing workplace scenarios to uncover how word choice shifts attitudes and builds trust.

Attendees will leave with a practical Words to Rethink Toolkit, offering strategies to strengthen communication with co-workers, residents, families, and the broader community. By watching what we say, employees at every level can foster cultures of kindness and connection while reshaping perspectives on aging.
