Documentary Screening – The Green Bench: A Decade of Wisdom and the Road Home

Loneliness and social isolation are recognized as urgent global health challenges, and senior living communities are uniquely positioned to lead in creating solutions. At the heart of this movement is The Green Bench, a symbol of intergenerational connection and a catalyst for combating ageism.

This session is designed as an immersive viewing experience, inviting attendees to reflect on the power of storytelling, intergenerational connection, and resident voice. Attendees are invited to join the exclusive U.S. screening of *The Green Bench* documentary, produced in celebration of the 10th anniversary of Schlegel Villages’ #ElderWisdom campaign.

The 45-minute film follows residents as they return to their hometowns and dream destinations—St. John’s, Newfoundland; London & Brighton, England; Elmira, Ontario; and Ottawa, Ontario—sharing their stories, lived experiences, and wisdom with the community. These journeys are powerful reminders of purpose, belonging, and the untapped resource of elders’ voices.

Following the screening, Schlegel Villages leaders who traveled alongside residents will offer brief reflections on the journey and its meaning, setting the stage for deeper conversation in the companion discussion session.
