Prescription stimulants are an effective pharmacotherapeutic choice for the treatment of ADHD, and are frequently prescribed across the lifespan of patients with ADHD. As such, it is important to understand why and how these medications work and react within the body in order to optimize patient care. This session will explore the psychopharmacology of stimulants, looking at their mechanism of action, review the list of approved medications within this category. While prescription stimulants are a strong tool for providers treating ADHD, it is important to understand the alternative forms of care available. Non-stimulant treatment options for ADHD will also be explored.
