11:35 AM - 12:35 PM
This session provides important clinical considerations and strategies for utilizing atypical antipsychotics (AAPs) to address depressive episodes in bipolar disorder (BD) and/or major depressive disorder (MDD). After gaining insights into the differentiation of bipolar from unipolar depression, attendees will assess the limitations of conventional treatments and evaluate the role of newer AAPs with FDA-approved indications specifically for bipolar and/or unipolar depression, including examination of their unique mechanisms of action and latest clinical data. Moreover, practical challenges with AAPs, including treatment selection, adverse effects management, and psychoeducation to reduce stigma associated with antipsychotic use, will be discussed to enhance clinical outcomes. This session is supported by an educational grant from AbbVie Inc.
