Safer Communities Through Sexual Abuse Prevention

Corey Spickler currently serves as the Program Manager for Community-Based Sexual Abuse Prevention Programs (SAPPS) with the Michigan Department of Corrections. Corey began working as a prison-based therapist in the fall of 2013 and has over 12 years of experience working with individuals who have a history of engaging in sexually abusive behaviors. In his current role, he ensures program fidelity of community and residential sexual abuse prevention programming, working with contracted community vendors who provide treatment to probationers and parolees. He also assists in the community-based management of parolees and probationers, serving as a resource for both parole and probation officers, contracted treatment providers, and other stakeholders working with those under community supervision with a history of sexually abusive behaviors.

Corey is a certified independent trainer in the Static-99R, Stable-2007 and Acute-2007 dynamic risk assessment tools for sexual recidivism. He is a member of the Michigan and International chapters of the Association for the Treatment and Prevention of Sexual Abuse (ATSA) as well as the Society for the Advancement of Actuarial Risk/Need Assessment (SAARNA).

Corey has extensive experience in the dynamics of sexual offender risk and needs assessments as well as sexual abuse prevention programming. He is knowledgeable on the literature and best practices of community supervision of individuals with a history of sexually abusive behaviors and he regularly assists in the training of parole and probation agents employed by the MDOC supervising sexual offender-specific caseloads.
