Dr. Benjamin Cherry is an academic hospitalist at VA Connecticut and Assistant Professor at Yale School of Medicine in the Section of General Internal Medicine. He is Co-Chair of VA Connecticut's Clinical Ethics Committee and Director of the Internal Medicine Subinternship at Yale.
Dr. Cherry received his medical degree, with Honors, from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH. He completed Internal Medicine residency at Yale-New Haven Hospital, where he won several awards for patient-centered care and research. As a member of the IM faculty, he has been recognized as VA Teacher of the Year and has been identified as among the most impactful faculty members in the YSM student experience.
His current teaching and research interests include pain management and modifiable risk factors in chronic wound healing, POCUS curricular development for students and residents, assessing and teaching care transitions between trainees, and advocacy in state and federal health policy.
In addition to his academic and clinical work, Dr. Cherry serves as Health and Public Policy Chair for the Connecticut chapter of the American College of Physicians, as a member of the Board of ACP’s national political action committee, and as Planning & Zoning commissioner for his town of Woodbridge.
