Robert B. McLafferty, M.D., M.B.A. did his undergraduate studies in Biology at Boston College and then attended the University of Vermont, School of Medicine. From there he went to Oregon Health & Science University to complete a residency in General Surgery and fellowship in Vascular Surgery. He then joined the faculty in the Division of Vascular Surgery at Southern Illinois University in Springfield, Illinois where he participated in clinical practice; educated medical students, residents, and fellows; built a robust research program. Under the tutelage of his Chairman, Gary Dunnington, MD, he developed an interest in the administrative side of healthcare and served as the Vice-Chair of Clinical Operations in the Department of Surgery for nine years. He also was Medical Director of the St. John’s Hospital Regional Wound Care Center and the Case Management Program.

Currently he is Professor of Surgery for Oregon Health & Science University and the Medical Director of the OHSU Wound and Hyperbaric Center. He is a Past-President of the American Venous Forum, the Vascular Disease Foundation, and the Society of Clinical Vascular Surgery. Dr. McLafferty considers himself a “general” vascular surgeon and enjoys participating in the art of vascular surgery with medical care, endovascular therapy, and surgical approaches to all types of vascular diseases. His personal interests have gravitated to areas including limb salvage, hemodialysis access, venous disease, wound care, vascular disease awareness and leadership development. Dr. McLafferty is also a songwriter and a record producer, with three full length Americana albums.
