Dr Almquist is an Associate Professor in the Department of Bioengineering at Imperial College London, Co-Director of Imperial’s Network of Excellence in Wound Healing and Regeneration, and Director of the Biomedical Technology Ventures degree programme. His research group works to develop bioinstructive materials that promote wound healing and regeneration, and has pioneered the use of cellular traction forces as a stimulus for controlled drug delivery. Dr Almquist is a founder and CTO of Traxion Biotech, which is focused on bringing this technological approach to wound care.

Dr Almquist is a Fellow of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IOM3), and his group members have received numerous awards, including the Wound Healing Society’s Wound Shark Innovation Award, Young Investigator Award of the European Tissue Repair Society, and June Wilson Award from IOM3 for their work in the area of advanced biomaterials for wound healing.
