Dr. Hoftman is an enthusiastic psychiatrist, board-certified in general adult and child & adolescent psychiatry. He is the founder of Helix Neuropsychiatric Center in Los Angeles, a PhD developmental neuroscientist, and an Adjunct Assistant Professor in Psychiatry at UCLA. He was the medical co-director of the psychosis risk clinic at UCLA and served as a psychiatrist at PAND Health's California OnTrack comprehensive specialty care for psychosis treatment program. Dr. Hoftman's broad and deep interests in psychiatric neuroscience drive his focus on neurodevelopment, neurogenetics, and non-invasive neural circuit based treatments like transcranial magnetic stimulation.

Dr. Hoftman completed his MD/PhD at the University of Pittsburgh/Carnegie Mellon University Medical Scientist Training Program, and his psychiatry residency and child fellowship training at the Western Psychiatric Hospital in Pittsburgh, where he was the chief resident of the research track and was selected to the outstanding resident award program at the National Institute of Mental Health.

He subsequently received training in neurobehavioral genetics and was in residence faculty at UCLA Psychiatry in the Brain Research Institute studying youth at genetic and clinical high risk for psychosis with grants from the National Institute of Mental Health, the Brain and Behavior Research Foundation, the Burroughs Wellcome Fund, and the Sorensen Foundation. He has a passion for treating children, adolescents, and adults with neurodevelopmental and neurogenetic conditions, and individuals with psychotic conditions. He prioritizes fighting against stigma in psychosis, and is currently a member of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry’s Early Psychosis Workgroup.
