Dr. Iacovoiello is a clinical psychologist, mental health researcher and developer of novel treatments for mood and anxiety disorders including digital therapeutics. He obtained a PhD in Clinical Psychology from Temple University where he focused on understanding the cognitive and behavioral underpinnings to depression and anxiety disorders. He then completed postdoctoral clinical and research training through the VA system and Mount Sinai School of Medicine where he focused on the treatment of mood and anxiety disorders and the clinical research of novel treatments for them. As an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Director of the Psychotherapy Research Program at Mount Sinai, Dr. Iacoviello invented, researched and developed a brain training exercise to modulate a key neural network implicated in depression and anxiety, conducting NIH-funded randomized controlled trials to demonstrate symptom effects as well as a brain imaging study to support the neuromodulatory mechanism of action for the exercise. Over the next 10 years, Dr. Iacoviello worked closely with a digital therapeutics and a pharmaceutical company that developed the exercise into a digital therapeutic which in 2024 became the first FDA-approved digital therapeutic for the treatment of depression symptoms. Dr. Iacoviello currently practices as a licensed psychologist and psychotherapist in NY and MA, consults with digital therapeutics and pharmaceutical companies, and serves on the voluntary faculty of the Depertment of Psychiatry at Mount Sinai.
