Janice V. Johnson Dowd, LMSW, is an author, speaker, and recovering alcoholic with over 20 years of clinical experience in family therapy and addiction. A passionate advocate for healing and connection, Janice brings a unique perspective shaped by both personal recovery and professional practice.
Her research journey began as an undergraduate at the University of Michigan and continued through graduate studies at the University of Texas at Austin, where she served as both a teaching and research assistant. In 2020, Janice retired to focus full-time on writing and research, deepening her commitment to advancing understanding in the fields of addiction and family systems.
Janice is the author of the book, Rebuilding Relationships in Recovery, and a contributor to mental health and addiction publications. She also maintains a blog that explores the intersections of recovery, parenting, and trauma-informed care. A frequent guest on podcasts and panels, Janice has presented at numerous addiction, social work, and 12-step conferences and workshops across the country.
