Assistant Professor
Palo Alto University

Wendy Wade was introduced to the field of children of parental addiction (COAs) in the 1980s when the field was beginning, co-leading educational support groups. Elementary school teaching and principalship allowed application of that knowledge in the school setting. At the Betty Ford Center, she co-facilitated educational support groups for children and caregivers, and developed programs for schools, along with training a variety of mental health and addiction professionals. She worked as camp counselor bi-monthly at Camp Mariposa for COAs through the Eluna Foundation in San Diego for 4 years. She has been counselor/case manager and family program coordinator at an inpatient drug and alcohol recovery facility. She has had increasing opportunities to speak at conferences, both addiction-focused and mental health-focused. She has presented several live and on-demand CEU webinars. She has trained and assisted with curricular development at NACoA and CE Learning Systems. She has provided therapy with children, families, and adults in community mental health clinics, and private practice. Currently she is Assistant Professor in a Master’s in Counseling Program at Palo Alto University since 2014 and lead teacher in the Addiction Counselor Course. She earned an MA in MFCC at Santa Clara University, and a PhD in Clinical Counseling at Pacifica Graduate Institute. She is a licensed LPCC and has a CADC 1 Credential.
