Dr. John Houton has dedicated over two decades to social services since 2000. Beginning with homeless, runaway, and at-risk youth in inner-city Philadelphia, his career expanded internationally to Ireland and locally to Lancaster County, where he specializes in trauma, attachment, and sexual abuse treatment.
Dr. Houton's expertise encompasses addiction and co-occurring disorders across community-based organizations and various care levels. He demonstrates particular passion for serving first responders and military personnel, while his commitment to community development has fostered numerous volunteer leadership roles.
His educational foundation includes a Bachelor of Science from Widener University, Master of Science in Pastoral Counseling and Care from Neumann University, and PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision with Pastoral and Spiritual Integration, also from Neumann. Professional credentials include Licensed Professional Counselor status in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor, Certified Clinical Supervisor, and Federal Department of Transportation Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) certification.
Currently, Dr. Houton is Clinical Director of Keystone Retreat Behavioral Health and a professor at Alvernia University in Reading, PA. Dr. Houton provides training, consultation, and workshops for treatment providers and community organizations throughout the Mid-Atlantic region. His professional mission centers on community improvement and family healing through evidence-based treatment practices and comprehensive care approaches, reflecting his integrated background in clinical mental health and pastoral counseling.
