Russell D. Cohen, MD. FACG, AGAF is a Professor of Medicine at the Pritzker School of Medicine and a senior faculty member in the Department of Medicine, Section of Gastroenterology at the University of Chicago. He is the Co-Director of the Digestive Diseases Center, Clinical Director of the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center, and the Co-Director of the Advanced IBD Fellowship Program at UChicago. He is the immediate former Illinois Governor and Regional Councilor for the American College of Gastroenterology.

Dr. Cohen earned his BS in biological sciences at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, and his MD with honors at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City. He completed his residency in internal medicine at Beth Israel Hospital/Harvard Medical School in Boston. His fellowship in gastroenterology and nutrition and his senior fellowship in inflammatory bowel diseases were conducted at the University of Chicago. Following his fellowships, Dr. Cohen was a Health Studies Scholar at the University of Chicago.

Dr. Cohen has edited three medical text books, and has authored/coauthored more than 200 articles, abstracts, reviews, books, book chapters, and audiotapes. He also is a reviewer for multiple journals, including New England Journal of Medicine, Gastroenterology, Gut, and American Journal of Gastroenterology, and is a former Associate Section Editor of the IBD journal. Dr. Cohen is the recipient of multiple honors and awards, and is named in Best Doctors in America, America’s Top Gastroenterologists, Top Doctors in the Chicago Metro Area, and Chicago Magazine’s Top Doctor in Gastroenterology
