Laura Sahyoun

Laura Sahyoun is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the Jill Roberts Center for Inflammatory Bowel Disease at Weill Cornell Medicine, where she also completed an advanced fellowship in IBD. She previously completed her internal medicine residency and served as chief resident at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School, followed by a gastroenterology fellowship at Yale New Haven Hospital, where she was chief fellow. Deeply committed to medical education, Dr. Sahyoun has been an active participant in the ACG Mentorship Program, REACH-IBD, and completed the Fellows as Medical Educators Program, with academic interests in trainee education and curriculum development.

Dr. Sahyoun is a clinical researcher with a focus on healthcare disparities and the socioeconomic determinants of health, extraintestinal manifestations of IBD, and optimizing treatment approaches for IBD. Her prior work includes a multicenter study examining the impact of primary language on treatment selection and outcomes in IBD, with a focus on potential barriers to optimal care. Her research also explores the application of intestinal ultrasound in IBD managemen, particularly its role in guiding therapy, assessing disease activity, and improving healthcare utilization. She established the intestinal ultrasound program for IBD care at Weill Cornell Medicine and is currently investigating its use in special populations, including pregnant patients. She is also is co-director of the women's wellness program at Weill Cornell, collaborating with high-risk maternal-fetal medicine to develop a multidisciplinary clinic for pregnant individuals with IBD.
