Dr. Abushamma is an Inflammatory Bowel Disease specialist at Cleveland Clinic and an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine. She completed her general gastroenterology fellowship at Washington University in St. Louis, and an IBD fellowship at Cleveland Clinic. Her research focuses on providing a clearer, more structured understanding of managing IBD-related permanent ostomies by creating the first comprehensive registry, addressing the significant gaps in current research and practice guidelines. She is a member of the Rising Educators, Academics, and Clinicians Helping Inflammatory Bowel Disease (REACH-IBD) Committee, a subset of the National Scientific Advisory Committee of the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation. She is an associate editor for Crohn's and Colitis 360 journal and is an advocate for under-represented physicians and patients through her participation in the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee for ASGE.
