Calling online medical control seems straightforward, but most EMTs and paramedics know how quickly it can get messy. Noise, stress, or a complex patient can turn a simple request into a confusing exchange, leaving both sides frustrated or unsure of what the other actually meant. Although nurses and hospital staff are trained to use structured reporting formats, EMS providers are rarely taught these same tools despite being expected to communicate at the same level. This solution-based session addresses that gap by showing prehospital providers how to apply a simple, predictable communication structure that fits the realities of field medicine and mirrors what physicians already rely on.

Attendees will learn the format that exists to streamline clinical conversations by front-loading only the information that drives decisions. In this session, learners will break down real OLMC examples, practice adapting SBAR to dynamic scenes, and learn how to deliver a clear request without the back-and-forth that slows patient care. This approach strengthens provider confidence, supports telemedicine and treat-in-place models, and brings EMS communication in line with the expectations of ER physicians and staff.
