Seizures are among the most common dispatch complaints for pediatric patients treated by EMS. While medics are taught to recognize and treat seizures in adults and children, anecdotal and clinical evidence suggests that pediatric status epilepticus is frequently missed by paramedics, resulting in delayed treatment and increased morbidity for patients. In this session, we will use publicly available videos to discuss the atypical seizures presentations that are more common in children, including how field testing can be used to differentiate active seizure from post-ictal presentations, and review current guidelines and research related to treatment of isolated and ongoing seizures in infants and children.
