Welcome, I am your Field Training Concierge!

We've all been there and heard it many times... "Welcome to field training. You will now be required to complete a week of in-person orientation and three months of field training." Oh, you've been a paramedic for twenty years and are a returning employee, oh well that doesn’t matter! Far too often, EMS field training programs are designed in a regimented, hours-based, black and white, systematic process, that does not leave room for adaptation, regardless of prior experience. In this presentation, we will discuss how to develop an adaptable, competency-based field training program that takes into consideration the experience level of the new employee. We will discuss how to adjust a pre-established field training program for new clinicians, experienced clinicians, educators, and returning employees. We will also discuss how to eliminate perceived bias in the field training process and how to develop a field training program that provides optimal clinical, operational, and financial performance. This presentation will introduce what we call the "concierge" field training program and introduce the basic design, implementation, and benefits of such a program.
