One dreary afternoon, a Netflix binge pulled me out of a devastating spiral of low morale and helped refocus my team. The Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders franchise is a masterclass in marketing and brand recognition. Every team member earns their spot each year, and none remain more than five.
Here in EMS, we live in an unstable job landscape filled with digital nomads working in an industry that, even in the 21st century, remains unevenly stratified and mostly ad hoc. With a known average of three careers by age 30 for much of Gen Z, you're not likely to have much of your workforce for more than five years. What's a manager to do? How can you improve your retention? Maybe the answer is that you don’t. You put that effort into other parts of the culture.
This presentation looks at the structure of the DCC organization and what can be adapted to help improve the culture and practices within an EMS agency to improve its morale and recruitment practices. We will look at short-term stability as a long-range benefit.
This is the companion to the Spring 2025 EMS World article of the same name.
