This session presents an opportunity for EMS professionals to harness the power of art therapy in addressing mental health challenges such as depression, anxiety, and stress related to their demanding roles. Participants will be introduced to the current landscape of mental health within the EMS community, bolstered by personal testimonies and research that underscore the emotional strain experienced by practitioners. The workshop aims to equip attendees with a comprehensive understanding of key concepts, including the definition of mental health in the context of prehospital medicine, the impact of stressors unique to this field, and the importance of resilience.
With the Stress Continuum framework as guidance, participants will explore adaptive coping mechanisms, learning how to apply practical strategies to mitigate the effects of job-related stressors. Engaging in a hands-on painting activity, attendees will experience self-reflection, fostering personal insights and emotional awareness while creating artwork that embodies their understanding of these concepts.
This immersive experience seeks to turn art into a valuable ally in nurturing resilience and renewing the spirit of EMS professionals, ultimately contributing to enriching their daily lives and improving their capacity for self care in high-stress environments.
