This course provides a comprehensive education in routine and complex childbirth. Over the course of 4 hours, the student will get a chance to learn about all aspects of childbirth, starting with anatomy and physiology and ending with shoulder dystocia and breech presentation, culminating in a final scenario utilizing real actresses simulating a complex delivery. Each student will learn skills such as how to accurately assess a pregnant and laboring patient and how to determine whether true active labor or pushing is occurring. How to handle all aspects of a routine delivery, newborn assessment, and resuscitation, and how to handle complications such as a hemorrhage, cord prolapse, shoulder dystocia, or breech presentation. They will attain these skills through a combination of both hands-on and didactic activities, leading up to the final scenario. Each student will receive a textbook, pens, and both a wallet-sized and frameable certificate at the end of the course. Simply put, this is the kind of course I wish I had had when I was going through school.
