The ASHER Symposium is an immersive, scenario-based training experience designed to prepare emergency responders for complex, high-consequence incidents in one of the most demanding operational environments in the nation. Hosted by Orange County Fire Rescue (OCFRD), the symposium is grounded in real-world experience, operational realism, and the OCFRD Training Section’s mantra: train for everything, ready for anything a guiding principle that shapes preparation from hands-on operations through incident command.
Orange County Fire Rescue is a 1,700-member department operating from 45 fire stations, providing emergency services across 746 square miles. OCFRD protects a resident population of more than 1.1 million, supports an estimated 202,000 daily visitors, and responds to over 139,000 calls annually, including approximately 18,600 fire incidents and 114,700 EMS responses. This operational tempo and complexity directly inform the realism and scope of the training delivered through the ASHER Symposium.
Through full-scale, interactive simulations, participants train alongside fire, EMS, law enforcement, medical professionals, and industry partners in operations, command, and hands-on roles. Attendees will not only leave with a memorable and impactful learning experience, but also with practical tools, frameworks, and proven concepts they can immediately take back and implement as a functional, sustainable program within their own municipalities.
The ASHER Symposium moves beyond theory, bridging planning, execution, and leadership so agencies are better prepared to plan for the unplanned.
