One in five women will experience a mood or anxiety disorder, OCD, or PTSD during pregnancy and after birth. However, it is estimated that only one out of those five women actually receive treatment for such a condition. A large body of evidence demonstrates multiple pathways for adversity visited upon offspring of mothers (and fathers) who are not treated for perinatal mood and anxiety disorders. This session will present necessary information for psychiatric nurse practitioners and other advanced practice nurses to safely and effectively care for this very vulnerable population.
