11:35 AM - 12:35 PM
This session focuses on elevating outcomes in schizophrenia treatment by implementing FDA-approved long-acting injectable antipsychotics (LAIs) within recovery-oriented care plans. Beginning with the imperative of early diagnosis and intervention, it elucidates the neuroprogressive nature of schizophrenia and emphasizes the potential of LAIs to improve adherence, prevent relapse, and thereby delay neuroprogression. Key components include misconceptions and other factors associated with the underutilization of LAIs for schizophrenia, evaluation of the efficacy and safety of LAIs according to the latest clinical data, and treatment outcomes with LAIs versus oral antipsychotics. This session also highlights collaborative communication strategies for promoting LAI utilization, including motivational interviewing and shared decision-making with patients as well as their care partners. This session is supported by an educational grant from Janssen Scientific Affairs, LLC.
