Prof. Sossalla serves as Chairman of the Medical Clinic I, Department of Cardiology, at the University Hospital of Giessen, and the Department of Cardiology at the Kerckhoff Heart & Thorax Center in Bad Nauheim, a leading international center for cardiovascular medicine. These high-volume institutions are renowned for their comprehensive care and cutting-edge research in cardiology and heart surgery.
Prof. Sossalla is an active interventional cardiologist with a strong focus on linking rhythmology and heart failure in both clinical practice and research. His current work aims to bridge the gap between electrophysiological mechanisms and the management of heart failure, with a particular emphasis on the ventricular effects of atrial fibrillation and related comorbidities.
His expertise lies in translational but also clinical electrophysiology, interventional, and clinical cardiology, with a specific focus on the effects of atrial fibrillation on ventricular function and the comorbidities of heart failure and atrial fibrillation.
Prof. Sossalla has received numerous prestigious research awards, such as the ESC Outstanding Achievement Award (2022) and the Albert Fraenkel Prize of the DGK (2020).
Prof. Sossalla also leads the Kerckhoff Heart Research Institute with the Justus Liebig University Gießen gGmbH.
