Arian Sultan

Prof. Andrea Sarkozy graduated in 1995 from Semmelweis Medical University, followed by specialization in internal medicine and cardiology. She completed a clinical electrophysiology fellowship at St. Michael’s Hospital, University of Toronto. From 2007 to 2013, she led the Clinical Electrophysiology Program at UZ Brussel, Belgium, where she also obtained her PhD on Brugada syndrome under Prof. Pedro Brugada. She subsequently directed the EP Program at UZ Antwerp (2013–2022), before returning to UZ Brussel in 2023 as Director of the Ventricular Arrhythmia and Sudden Death Unit of the Heart Rhythm Management Centre.
A Fellow of EHRA (since 2017) and ESC (since 2024), she served on the EHRA Board (2014–2017), was EHRA Webinar Director (2017–2020 and since 2024), and Scientific Programme Co-Chair of the EHRA Congress (2022–2024).
An internationally recognized expert in interventional electrophysiology, with unique expertise in the catheter ablation treatment of complex atrial and ventricular arrhythmias, Prof. Sarkozy has authored more than 240 peer-reviewed publications, co-authored major international guidelines, and serves as principal investigator in multiple multicentre trials. She is also a regular reviewer for leading journals in cardiology and electrophysiology.

Jonathan P. Piccini, MD, MHS, FACC, FAHA, FHRS is a clinical cardiac electrophysiologist and Associate Professor of Medicine with Tenure at Duke University Medical Center and the Duke Clinical Research Institute. He is the Director of the Cardiac Electrophysiology section at the Duke Heart Center. His focus is on the care of patients with atrial fibrillation and complex arrhythmias, with particular emphasis on catheter ablation and lead extraction. His research interests include the development and conduct of clinical trials to evaluate innovative cardiovascular therapeutics for the care of patients with heart rhythm disorders. He has served as the chairman for several national and international clinical trials and registries, including the American Heart Association-Get with the Guidelines Atrial Fibrillation program. He is an associate editor for the Journal of Interventional Cardiac Electrophysiology and serves on the editorial board of several journals, including Heart Rhythm, the European Heart Journal, JACC: Clinical Electrophysiology, Circulation: Arrhythmia & Electrophysiology and the Journal of Cardiac Electrophysiology. Dr. Piccini has more than 500 publications in the field of heart rhythm medicine and has been the recipient of several teaching and mentorship awards.

Dr. Tom De Potter trained as a cardiologist in Belgium until 2007, and as an electrophysiologist in Barcelona and Hamburg until 2009.

Since 2009, he joined the Cardiovascular Center Aalst, Belgium where he currently serves as the director of the EP department and the chairman of R&D for the cardiology department. His research interests are translational/early stage ablation technologies, sudden death risk stratification, structural interventions for stroke prevention, cardioneuromodulation, multimodality imaging to support the above procedures and machine learning approaches to analyse imagaing and automate workflows. He has published >100 peer reviewed articles and is a co-author of the ESC 2024 AF guidelines.

He is an active investigator in several multinational randomized clinical trials in the field of ablation for atrial fibrillation or ventricular tachycardia, and has performed the world’s first human RF ablation using very high power energy (90 W ablation) as well as the world’s first human pulmonary vein isolation with the J&J platform for pulsed field ablation.
